since 2017 —

Proud makers in the spotlight.

A filled Den Haag in a Box gift box with local products

In 2017, two brothers started the City in a Box initiative, with a mission to put local makers in the spotlight — and to introduce locals to all the good things their city has to offer.

Out of that grew the tastiest and most original Christmas hampers in town. Ever since, we've been gathering the finest artisan products of local soil in our boxes.

Besides supporting local entrepreneurship, we contribute to local employment: our boxes are packed at sheltered workshops in The Hague. That way we also help create work for great people who find it just a little harder to land a job.

And nothing goes to waste: everything left over after the season is donated to the local food bank. So every box gives twice — once to the recipient, once to the city.

proud of the city, proud of our work —

Our local partners

The makers behind every box.

Brouwerij Haagsche Broeder

The Hague

Brewed inside the Willibrordushuis monastery on Oude Molstraat, together with the brothers who live there. What started as their hobby became a real brewery with its own tasting room. In our box: the Postulant and the Oude Molstraat white IPA.

De Bonte Koe

The Hague

Chocolate made by hand since 1992, now run by the second generation and B Corp certified. You will find their shop in the Zeeheldenkwartier. We picked their chocolate drink lollies: stir one into warm milk for the best hot chocolate in town.

De Haagsche Cacaofabriek

The Hague

In the creative hub The New Farm, Evert Schulten turns beans into bars using cocoa from agroforestry. Not for the world market, simply something good for the people around him. His sea salt Hague hopjes bar and Haagse Kak bar travel in our boxes.

Eiber Bier

The Hague

Started in 2016 by locals Jasper and Louise, carrying the city's stork proudly in its name. In Hague dialect: geift u mè mâh ein lekkeâh Èbâh bieâhtje. We pack Haags Hoog, Achter de Duinen and De Baron.

ief & ido

The Hague

On Prinsestraat they roast fresh every week, guided by feel and experience, from farmer to cup. It even grew into tastings and coffee projects. Our boxes carry their Mexico Bloom coffee beans.

Kompaan

The Hague

It began as kitchen brews on the stove of two friends, Jeroen and Jasper, and now fills a brewery on Saturnusstraat. The name stands for their friendship, every beer for its own character. We chose the cans Lefgozer and Levensgenieter.

Mitsuba

The Hague

Asian street food flavours from the region around The Hague, made for passing the bag around. Crunchy, and a little bolder than a handful of nuts. You will find their wasabi crispy rice crackers, salted crunchy edamame and beef noodles snack mix.

Seepje

The Hague

Dreamed up in 2013 by students Jasper and Melvin after a documentary about Nepalese women washing with soap nuts. From Mauritskade they grew all the way to the Forbes 30 under 30 list. Their hand soap is in our box: plant based, fair trade and free of microplastics.

Van Kleef

The Hague

On Lange Beestenmarkt since 1841, where museum, shop and tasting bar flow into one another. More than 180 years in the same spot, still following historic Hague recipes. We bring along their Hague hopjes liqueur, speculaas liqueur and rose liqueur.

Yespers

The Hague

Stefan Baecke started in 2014 with one mission: a short supply chain with as little waste as possible. In their factory in The Hague East the whole apple goes in, pips included. Think apple juice, apple crisps, granola, nut spread and Jingle Juice in our boxes.
