City in a Box, since 2016 —
Since 2016, City in a Box has brought together the best of local makers. What began in Rotterdam as an idea of two brothers has grown into a network of makers across the Netherlands.
That grew into Christmas hampers and corporate gifts filled with artisan products from cities across the country. In 2025, The Hague joined, with treats from its own makers.
We support local businesses and contribute to local employment. Our boxes are packed at sheltered workshops in The Hague, by people who find it a little harder to find work.
And nothing goes to waste: everything left over after the season is donated to the local food bank. So every box gives twice — once to the recipient, once to the city.

Our local partners
The Hague
Two brewers, Kees and Jelger, brew inside the Willibrordushuis on Oude Molstraat, home to the Brothers of Saint John. What started as a hobby became a small brewery with its own tasting room on Noordeinde. In our box: the Postulant and the Oude Molstraat white IPA.
's-Hertogenbosch
City Gin creates a gin for each city, together with local entrepreneurs and residents. The Hague edition was put together with more than a hundred residents: green like the city flag, with the stork as its icon and botanicals including orange, lime, red apple and black pepper. We pack City Gin Den Haag in a large and a small bottle.
Schiedam
Since 1992 this family business has made chocolate by hand in Schiedam, now led by the second generation and B Corp certified. In The Hague you'll find their shops in the Zeeheldenkwartier and on Korte Poten. We picked their hot chocolate lollies: stir one into warm milk for a proper hot chocolate.
The Hague
In The New Farm, in the heart of The Hague, two friends make chocolate from bean to bar. By hand, in small batches, with cocoa from agroforestry. Their Haagse hopjes sea salt bar and Haagse Kak bar travel in our boxes.
The Hague
Jasper van den Burg and Louise Boonstoppel started Eiber in 2016. The name refers to the stork, the symbol of The Hague. Since 2021 they have brewed on the sixth floor of The New Farm. We pack Haags Hoog, Achter de Duinen and De Baron.
The Hague
Roasted fresh every week in The Hague, from farmer to cup. What began as a hobby in 2018 became a roastery with a shop and espresso bar on Prinsestraat, where they also run workshops. Our boxes carry their Mexico Bloom coffee beans.
Amsterdam
A social enterprise from Amsterdam fighting plastic waste, with refillable bottles and public taps for tap water, and funding water projects around the world. In our box: the Den Haag City Bottle.
The Hague
It began as kitchen brews on the stove of two friends, Jeroen and Jasper, and now fills a brewery on Saturnusstraat. The name stands for their friendship, every beer for its own character. We chose the cans Lefgozer and Levensgenieter.
The Hague
A snack brand from The Hague, with flavours inspired by Asian cities and street food. Every variety is palm oil free. You'll find their Wasabi Crispy rice crackers, Salted Crunchy Edamame and Street Food Snack mix beef noodles.
The Hague
In 2013 friends Jasper and Melvin saw on TV how people in Nepal made soap from the shells of a fruit. From The Hague they built a natural soap brand on that idea, and in 2018 they made the Forbes 30 Under 30 list. Their hand soap is in our box: plant based and free of microplastics.
The Hague
On Lange Beestenmarkt since 1842, in the former distillery that now houses a historic shop and a museum, with tours and tastings. We bring along their Haagsch Hopje liqueur, speculaas liqueur and rose liqueur.
The Hague
Stefan Baecke founded Yespers in 2014. Their apple factory in The Hague uses the whole apple: the peel becomes apple crisps, the pips become oil. In our boxes: apple juice, apple crisps, granola, nut spread and Jingle Juice.
Rotterdam
Our social partner: a social enterprise in Rotterdam-Zuid with a shop, coffee bar and workshop. Young people with a disability or a distance to the labour market gain work experience there, including packing work. That is also where our Hague boxes are packed.
